D. H. Hill Library towers to undergo repairs

Hill Library under renovation.

The exterior of the north and south towers at the D. H. Hill Jr. Library will be under repair throughout the fall 2018 semester. Construction staff will replace sealant around leaky windows and repair damaged brick and concrete around the windows.

The library will continue to operate normally throughout these repairs, which are expected to take about three months. The work will only be on the exterior of the building and will not affect the East and West Wings.

The work will be done on swing stages, which are similar to the suspended platforms that window washers use. A large crane will be set up on the Brickyard to move swing stage equipment and materials to the roof, and a temporary plywood canopy will be built over the ramp at the main library entrance to provide protection while this work is happening.

Work will take place from 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Fridays will only be used as makeup days for bad weather.

The work will produce some noise when tools are used to remove the old sealant. Some of the old sealant has been found to contain PCBs that must be removed with special precautions to ensure complete safety. You may see some signage referring to these precautions.
